This semester, Alvi Hamid's Marketing Class (Zhenjiang Campus) embarked on a project to demonstrate the 4Ps of a product's life cycle.

The project included the design and manufacture of tie-dyed T-shirts and effectively demonstrated to students the Maturity stage of a product's life cycle which includes modification of a product.
Alvi's aim for this project was to 'spice up' the Marketing class (increase engagement of students) by making the theory in their Marketing class come alive in a practical way . As Alvi says "I just felt that there was too much theory."
This lesson can be adapted to environmental awareness like recycling or used in the way it was as a modification of an existing product (Product life cycle - maturity stage). Ideally students could either buy new T-shirts or make them. Because of time constraints, Alvi opted for the recycling of old T-shirts. She bought the dye from Taobao (not expensive), provided the string (art supplies) and asked students to bring gloves and a large freezer bag.
The students utilized other items from the school like colanders from the Foods Room and the plastic lids from stationery baskets as a rack (necessity is the mother of all inventions!). This was a two-day activity which Alvi is hoping to turn into a graded activity for the future.
The Marketing Class created the tie dye design as well as implemented the design on the T-shirts.
What's next on the timetable for Alvi's students? She is busy planning a mini herb garden project - stay tuned for details on that project soon!

Alvi Hamid is an enthusiastic teacher at the Zhenjiang Campus, who believes in the power of applying theoretical knowledge to practice.
